It’s all about location in the ‘search’ game. Your location can depend on whether or not you’ll be dishing out the dollars on your CPC campaigns, or one of the lucky few, who can reap the rewards of a low CPC. However, a high CPC does not always guarantee more money.
Organic Search is still an important factor to consider when judging the success of a website’s search campaign. In this blog, you’ll be able to learn the reasons why some countries have a higher CPC than others and reasons why that may be.
It is not only CPC that you have to worry about when it comes down to mastering your AdWords program, but also your click-through-rate (CTR).
Countries with a high CPC tend to usually have a higher CTR from those in their own country, which leads to higher conversions.
If you’re targeting a segment of people in your own country, having people from countries such as India and Pakistan click your ad won’t have much positive effect given they’re probably not interested in buying your product.
It is no surprise that most of the western world is in the highest CPC category, with the below countries rounding out the top 10 for 2019.
For those who may not know, the Marshall Islands are a US associated state despite residing in Oceania. They operate on USD, and the majority of their GDP is from United States assistance.
That top 10 list may surprise some, but it’s all for valid reasons. Developing or underdeveloped countries in Africa and South America may have limited internet access, and thus, won’t show up on this list.
Developed countries like Australia, the US, parts of Europe and Canada have a high CPC for several reasons – some may surprise you.
These 3 Reasons Are
- No local competition
We don’t mean there isn’t any competition for the bidder, we mean that Google is largely unrivalled as the most preferred search engine in these countries. Bing, Yahoo, Baidu, DuckDuckGo, all of these have a very small market share and don’t offer the same level or variety of advertising tools Google does.
- Highly developed and growing economies
These countries in the top 10 all have one thing in common – highly urbanised with a growing economy. They also have strong, stable governments, mostly speak English, and share strong economic ties to the US or powerful countries.
- Mobiles are ubiquitous – and so are their audiences.
A vast majority of the world has access to a mobile phone nowadays, and browsing the internet has never been easier than today. Mobile CPC’s are generally lower than desktop CPC’s, so it makes sense to cater to not only a cheaper audience, but a more ever-present audience. Make sure your website is optimised and responsive to mobile phones, or you may be shooting yourself in the foot on missed conversions.
